My youngest daughter age seven, loves to sculpt and she's working on a rabbit from your animal book. She hasn't had to ask me for help, the steps in your book are done so well. It's going to be nice for my family and I to learn more techniques on sculpting human figures, and we're excited for your new book to come out. -- Elizabeth J.

I have this book from the library. It is absolutely the most excellent book I have seen on polymer clay sculpting. Thank you for sharing your creative and analytical skills with me. - Your book I ordered on December 4 has appeared on my desk today (Dec 6). That is exceptional service and I appreciate it. Many thanks and best wishes... William C.

I bought a copy of your animals in clay book recently and found it extremely helpful when I was asked by my wife to sculpt a brooch of our Siamese cat, Willum. It came out quite well - not lifelike, in fact just like him! Thanks for the pre-baked eyes tip, it was very helpful. Next I'll try a better sculpt of our British Blue. -- Alan V.

Hi Katherine! I just had to write and let you know that I tried the bunny in your book and it turned out beautifully, especially considering this is my first time attempting realism. You are an absolute genius, when it comes to explaining instructions in clear, simple terms. I just had to tell you that I dreamed of sculpting bunnies, even in my sleep last night! Thank you so much for all of the joy you have brought me through your book, and your willingness to share. -- Diane L.

"Have you ever considered sculpting as a hobby or even as a career? Would you like to create things for your own modeling dioramas that add to the excitement and worth of your subjects? This book may be the ticket to help you fulfill your dreams and bring you to places that you never thought possible." -- Modeler's Resource magazine review (Dec-Jan, #37)

I have been praising your book to everyone so I thought I would tell you too. I have finished the first four animals and am almost finished with the Bassett hound. I never dreamed I could sculpt anything, especially not anything realistic. Your book has been my leap into sculpting. The directions are wonderful. I am a beginner with sculpting but not with using polymer clay. I have made the usual PC things, canes, jewelry etc. but never sculpting. I am now confident enough to do my own animals. I will finish all of the animals in your book because they keep introducing new techniques. Thank you for a wonderful book. -- Marsha M.

You're studying with a master in this book... Sculptor Katherine Dewey, who has been making, teaching and exhibiting polymer sculpture for years, put her talent and experience into "Creating Life-like Animals in Polymer Clay." So if you're ready to expand your creative field or advance your technique, you're studying with a master in this book. Katherine guides you through all the steps with strong advice that will stay with you, not shortcuts that take out the "art" and leave only the "craft." You'll learn to make ceramic animal pieces that you'll really be pleased to keep, sell, or give as gifts... -- Amazon "Top 50" book reviewer

Having found your book "Creating Life-Like Animals in Polymer Clay" to be invaluable, my wife and I have found our way to your website on itouch.net... The first thing I did when I got this book was to look at all the projects like a picture book. I was more than a little intimidated! The next time through I began reading the text and the little instructions and tips some of my fear began to evaporate. I decided to try one of the lessons. I carefully followed the steps to make the head of the mouse. Can you imagine my amazement when it actually looked like a mouse? Yes, I know, I have had years of working with polymer clay behind me. Would this book work as well for a true clay neophyte? I believe it would. Katherine writes in a clear and easy to follow manner. Her projects are carefully planned and thought out. This book and the many tips in it as well as the projects have many potential uses. Using Katherinešs methods for finding shapes and proportions, I feel that I can now sculpt many of naturešs creatures with more confidence. -- Polymer Clay Haven Book Review

I just received your book on sculpting life-like animals a week ago, I bought it through a Dutch bookstore, and I LOVE it, all kind of new techniques, your pictures and the way you explain things are very well, so I'll ask all my polymerclay friends to take a look at it, maybe they would want to buy it too!!! -- Ineke S.

"Creating Life-like Animals" is one of the most outstanding books of its kind. As a still-unknown doll artist, I look for "accessories". I found your book at OSU. It is the best book I've seen to date on polymer sculpting. The first chapter on clays is outstanding. As a doll artist, the book has all my favorite tools... Please write another book!!! I will be recommending this book to the members of The Guild of Ohio Dollmakers (G.O.O.D.) -- Jan H

I just had to write back to you regarding your new book. I was thrilled to get the book and look through it and all but NOW I have to write and tell you I am beside myself with GLEE because the frog and mouse that I made from your instructions are incredible. I just got done reading this book last night... It is one of the best, most thorough and complete how-to's I have seen. (And I collect how-to's!) Beautiful pictures, concise instructions, and very easy techniques broken down to the most understandable steps. I love this book! I especially like the section on making your own tools. Simply wonderful! This book is so great. The step by step details were so well photographed, and so detailed. The animals are so cute and so life-like. Katherine has so many suggestions on tools, from making your own to purchasing them. This was my first attempt at realistic animals. I've already made three of the cutest little animals, and everyone is asking where I bought them. I LOVE this book! -- Ginger C.

A "Must Have" for Polymer Clay Enthusiasts! Katherine Dewey has worked magic with this book. The instructions are clear and thorough enough that a even a beginning sculptor would be able to create wonderful likenesses of the animals portrayed.
For those more familiar with the aspects of polymer clay and sculpting, this book contains valuable information and techniques that may be applied to an artist's own work; thereby improving its strength and quality. Katherine's use of armatures and proportion is well explained and portrayed, making this book an excellent learning resource for beginning sculptors, as well as a superb reference tool for advanced sculptors. -- Lynette J.

Lucked out and found your new book in the Texas Art Supply store the day they put it on the shelf. I know if I had waited until the Polymer Guild Meeting it would not have been there or I would have had to scramble to get one before they sold out...Your sculptural work both in animals and figures is beautiful, and I don't know anybody in the field that does better work in this area... I am enjoying your book, and am getting really good information that helps me from making at least some mistakes in my own work. The instructions on your figurines are clear and easy to follow (not always true of books). The section on tools, and the reviews of the clays as they relate to your area of work are helpful. Thank you for your errata listing here at the website. -- Carol A.

Just wanted to tell you I finally got my book yesterday and I stayed up late reading it last night! It is super and I'm just waiting for some spare time to start on the animals. The directions are so clear and precise. If I don't succeed, it will only be because I have no ability at all--and I don't think that badly of myself. So, I see some animals in my future thanks to you... Congratulations on a book that no clay or sculpture artist should be without. -- Patty B.

Oh my -- Your book is absolutely wonderful! I am in love. I am bringing it with me to the workshop in June (DC guild) and I hope you will sign it for me. It will be tattered I assure you... I have made some of the animals from your book and I wanted to show them to you... I absolutely love it. I've been waiting for your book to be published every since I first found your website. Thank you for inspiring me so much... Now I anxiously await your fairy book (hint hint). -- Oscelyn B

I received Katherine Dewey's new book titled "Creating Life-Like Animals in Polymer Clay" on Friday. Over the weekend I just had to try the first project. It is a cute little deer mouse. Now please keep in mind that this is my first real sculpture, I have made figurines quite often, but never before have I molded, sculpted, and blended to make a piece. In addition, I have no real experience painting either (or at least no good experiences!)... I absolutely love this book, the pictures and the descriptions of every step are so wonderful that even I could follow them. Congrats on a wonderful book, Katherine! -- Heather R.
