Elvenwork Modeling Mat
a tool for the figurative sculptor

template work surface -- $7.50

Easy to clean and easy to carry, this two sided 8 by 11 inch laminated mat is more than a work surface. Designed as the perfect partner for Katherine's book Creating Life-Like Figures in Polymer Clay, this handy guide keeps the proportional information you need right at your fingertips while you work, all the landmarks of the human form listed and accurately illustrated at 1/12th scale on a precise grid. This Second Edition of her popular original modeling mat introduces a more complete list of figure landmarks AND illustrates both front and back views for immediate reference for the figurative sculptor!

Elvenwork Modeling Mat, Junior
landmarks of the child

template work surface -- $7.50
($5.50 when ordered with Elvenwork Modeling Mat)

A durable and informative work surface, Katherine graphically depicts the growth patterns of children from 6 months to 10 years old against the same universal grid used in the Elvenwork Modeling Mat. Children are not just miniature adults! Their proportions vary from year to year in well documented ways. Katherine has long used growth tables to make sure she gets the proportions right. Now she has translated these tables into easily understandable and visually intuitive graphics on a sculpting work surface that keeps the information right in front of you as you work. All of the drawings are to 1/12 scale and each age group is accompanied by a written table of proportions. Ages represented are 6 mo, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10. If you sculpt children, this is a tool you won't want to be without.

Making Babies
10 full-page photo-illustrated workbook -- $8.75

A supplement to Katherine's book, Creating Life-Like Figures in Polymer Clay, Making Babies continues her "no-nonsense, show how it's done" teaching approach for sculpting the infant figure. For sculptors and doll artists who want the complete spectrum of figurative sculpting techniques she offers, this is an essential addition to your library! In this workbook, Katherine begins with 1/4 scale (6 inch) and includes instructions to create infant figures in smaller scales. All of her usual measurements for proportioning are also well covered. In much the same way she did with her adult figures book, Katherine includes numerous photo images and diagrams to describe the sculpting process. If you already own her new book, you won't want to be without this supplemental booklet, Making Babies! [This subject was developed by popular request.]

Wedgwood Beads and Bas Relief Baubles
a workshop on miniature relief

6 full-page illustrated handout -- $5.75

Katherine introduced this subject in 2001 at the National Polymer Clay Guild's Courting the Muse conference at Bryn Maur. In it she teaches how to mix your own colors to create that perfect Wedgwood blue and more than a dozen other Wedgwood colors. The workbook contains detailed instruction for how to pattern your reliefs for the best appearance and take sculpting in bas relief to another level. Lots of new patterns for creating stunning pendants and brooches!

Bas Relief in Polymer Clay
5 full-page illustrated handout -- $5. 75
($3.75 when ordered with Wedgwood Beads and Baubles)

Learn how to create a design; transfer the pattern onto thin sheets of clay with a razor knife; apply simple clay shapes to add depth; blend and model using gentle pressure -- the elements of Polymer Bas Relief. Inspired by topographic maps, adapted from fresco transfer, low relief sculpting is the ideal way to create that perfect cameo.

Sculpted Celtic Jewelry
crafting the torc in polymer clay

6 full-page illustrated handout -- $5.75

Over 150 gold torcs have been unearthed in Great Britain. Collars signifying status, most have smooth round endcaps on serpentine bands, but Roman influence affected changes in embellishment, though not in the overall designs. Changing the shapes of these characteristics offers all manner of possiblities, especially for the polymer clay artist.

The Sculpted Cuff
6 full-page illustrated handout -- $5.75
($3.75 when ordered with Sculpted Celtic Jewelry)

With its classic form, the basic cuff yields itself to a variety of sculptural embellishments. Construction varies from a simply modeled, armature free band to a fully round, wearable sculpture made of multiple armatures and sculptural components. This session will teach you the methods to do both and offers a variety of patterns including the Dolphin Cuff.

Flexible Sheet Molds
creating texture and pattern sheets

4 full-page illustrated handout -- $3.75

Katherine teaches how she creates texture molds out of thin sheets of flexible clay. Firm, yet flexible, these molds are thin enough to use the pasta machine as a mold press. Learn how to make molds that will simplify your detailing work, press molds you can use time and again to create the same effect!

Molded Armatures and Undersculpts
12 full-page photo-illustrated workbook -- $9.00

In this exciting new workshop, Katherine pulls out all the stops to teach polymer sculptors her method for making posable undersculpts with modeling epoxies, and how to create your own press molds to create them consistently in any scale! Imagine being able to press out durable, proportional, pre-wired molded armatures for each new sculpt you envision, armatures that can be posed in advance so that your final piece will be sculpted with confidence. Katherine shows step-by-step how to create your own "make once, use often" press molds and recommends the sources for the materials she uses to do it all. Knowing these techniques will save any polymer sculptor hours of time and repetition. [this subject was first developed for the National Polymer Clay Guild's Synergy conference, 2008]

Crafting Foil Cores
6 full-page illustrated handout -- $5.75
($3.75 when purchased with Molded Armatures and Undersculpts)

Learn how Katherine makes large sculptures stronger, lighter, and better. "Inside most structures is source of inner strength, a framework or skeleton. Polymer clay sculptures of 1/12th scale and smaller often need a bone or two, stiff metal bones that keep spines straight and limbs from buckling, but not much more than that. Larger scale pieces require more support. Tightly packed aluminum foil offers a solution. Foil cores replace clay, reduce the weight and shorten baking time." There's much more to this subject than meets the eye.

Raw Clay Lathing
tools and techniques for turning pc

6 full-page illustrated handout -- $5.75

A technique with applications for the jewelry designer and the miniaturist, turning raw clay is as absorbing as it is adaptable. It's possible to turn one of a kind patterns or turn the same pattern over and over again. Using a "Turning Handle" and a turning template makes the task easier, especially when even turnings and identically turned rods or spindles are the goal. Katherine teaches how to make and use her raw clay lathe!

Winged Creatures
the Gryphon and the Dragon

8 full-page illustrated pattern book -- $7.75

This is a booklet of patterns based on myth. The patterns are templates for modeling. While there are no step by step instructions per se, the pattern diagrams do illustrate the successive steps. If you're familiar with Katherine's book, Creating Life-like Animals in Polymer Clay, you should have no trouble creating these creatures. The methods of assembly are the same used if you were to sculpt any of the more advanced animals in the book, especially the Fox and the Siamese Cat. Like those animals you'll combine simple shapes to create more complex forms. Even if you don't have the book, this workbook provides complete descriptions and patterns for creating these creatures, from their inner foil core to their wire reinforced wings, all fully illustrated with the intermediate to accomplished sculptor in mind.

Equestrian Busts
5 full-page illustrated pattern book -- $4.50

Love horses? Chess anyone? In this richly illustrated seminar workbook, Katherine shows step by step how to sculpt a perfectly proportioned horse bust, including how to mount your masterpiece on its base for a dramatic display. She includes a comprehensive list of all of the subject's "landmarks" so not one detail will be overlooked. If you've always longed to sculpt a horse or unicorn, begin with the head. That's how the masters do it. [this subject was first developed for the British Polymer Clay Guild's PolyDays 2003 event]

The Mask
4 full-page illustrated workbook -- $5.00

Is that the way you look!? Katherine developed this method of theatrical mask-making for the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts (University of Illinois) way back in 1976 when polymer clay was brand new. Since then she has refined her methods to include both new and tried and true materials, evolving her original methods. The result is this little workbook, the next best thing to a trade secret in life-size mask making, full of detailed written instruction and how-to images. If you like to trick the eye, you'll enjoy learning how to make polymer clay masks from Katherine Dewey! [this subject was first developed for the British Polymer Clay Guild's PolyDays 2003 event]

Solar Plates
and other sundry stuff

8 full-page photo-illustrated workbook -- $7.50

In this workshop, Katherine teaches step by step how to create precision molds and stamps by using the sun and flexible polymer photo plates. As if by magic, an exact replica of your positive or negative overlay is etched into the plate to become a permanent tool to reproduce the image in relief or depression into your polymer clay creations. You can even download high resolution designs to start with from here! Think of the possibilities. With this knowledge, you can reproduce even the most complex designs over and over, or begin that life-like cameo you've always wanted to do of Auntie Em. Katherine teaches it all with easy to follow photo-illustrations, descriptions, and detailed diagrams all along the way. If that wasn't enough, she goes on to teach how to build her ultraviolet light exposure unit in case the sun doesn't shine or you have your inspiration during the night, complete with detailed diagrams and instructions, built for less than half the cost of the cheapest exposure unit on the market with less than 3 hours of light work! Solar Plates is a most cool tool for the polymer clay artist/crafter. [this subject was developed for the Northwest Polymer Clay Guild's Ravensdale 2003, Polymer Clay and Mixed Media conference]

Making Fairy Wings
7 full-page photo-illustrated workbook + templates -- $7.50

Finally! Katherine reveals exactly how she creates super-fine, super-thin fairy wings in multi-media! She even gives you a sampling of high resolution designs you can use directly or adapt to your own imagination - just download her designs right here! In this workshop, Katherine takes you through step-by-step as you create wing designs sized for your fey creations, wings of fantasy and nature made from paper or transparencies. She even illustrates by computer screen images how you can enhance your designs and save them so you can recall them time after time. You asked for it, you finally got it! A must have booklet for the fantasy sculptor and a perfect compliment to Katherine's book, Creating Life-Like Figures in Polymer Clay. [this subject was developed for the Northwest Polymer Clay Guild's Ravensdale 2003, Polymer Clay and Mixed Media conference]

International Postage

If you live outside the US or Canada, you should know how I charge for the extra mailing expense in getting your guides to you. Because it is impossible for me to program Elvenwork Orderform for every possible order to every destination, I must calculate the overseas amount separately. My prices already include domestic US postage so my practice is to calculate the overseas postal amount by subtracting US postage from the total postage for each order.

Example: A recent order from an artist in Great Britain weighed 7 ounces. The total cost to send the order by First Class International came to $6.30. The postal fee for the same package to a US destination is $1.82 so I only asked for the difference between the two, $4.48 additional ($6.30 to UK -minus- $1.82 to US = $4.48). I never add a hidden fee, just the difference it costs to send an order.

When you place your order, please be assured any additional postage cost will be only the amount I pay to send it to you. If you use PayPal or PayPal Credit Card service to pay for your order, I will send it right away and request the additional amount (with explanation) through PayPal email later. If you intend to pay by check or money order, I will email you the calculation so you can add it to your payment amount before sending your payment.

For orders of $US40.00 or more, overseas shipping is Free!
